During these times of uncertainty, vulnerability and fear I notice the need to feel, move and breathe even more. To journey inwards. As I sit with the feelings of discomfort that arise I cannot simply numb out nor run away. I notice that as I feel these feelings and make them welcome (simply by observing and not judging them) I can allow them to shift, express and transform.

Even just a few minutes of diaphragmatic breathing (also known as Yogic breath) has an immediate and calming effect on our nervous system's flight and fight response. It can help us to shift into our calming rest and digest response and mitigate the overwhelm that so many of us are currently navigating. These techniques can be used throughout the day as and when you need them. We will be exploring this and lots more in my upcoming online yoga sessions.

In the meantime I'd like to share one of my favourite Rumi teachings called The Guest House with you below:

"This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond."

By Sufi Mystic Jalaluddin Rumi translated by Coleman Banks.

Wishing you compassion and tenderness for all that is arising.
